Tracy Has Left Us.
I have to write something for her
This morning, my dear lifelong friend Tracy — China Director at Harvard Business School — left us. Because of her, classmates from every corner of the country were able to come together, build friendships, share experiences and support one another. With her warmth, attentiveness and wisdom, Tracy connected people from all walks of life and built a community full of warmth and trust. Her passing is an immense sorrow. May Tracy find joy and peace on her next journey.
Tracy left us so suddenly.
I hope she wasn't in pain.
I'm heartbroken. Writing this is my solemn farewell to her.
It's also to remember her strength, her optimism, and her love.
Her last WeChat Moments post was still about admissions
She used to say she ran Harvard like a one-woman business, and she truly did.
How we first met
In March 2018, I met Teacher Pang for the first time, in the UK. Her very first introduction was to say that, as director at Harvard Business School, she welcomed everyone and hoped we'd enjoy learning — followed immediately by six or seven photos of the Harvard dorms.
After that came greetings back and forth at every holiday. I sent her oranges and rice; she sent me Harvard Business Review. I gave her shoes; she gave me a little Harvard-preppy jacket.
I put the magazines in the A Study, hoping guests passing through would pick them up and leaf through them.
Right up until the pandemic restrictions lifted, we did charity work together.
I happened to have medicine, and Tracy split it into little packets and gave them to the elderly people around her.
She was always praising the people around her as angels — and that's because only an angel's eyes can see angels.
In a video she left for us, she said:
"My most beloved, most most most beloved, most most most beloved SELP classmates, Teacher Pang has taken her ticket and is getting off the train a little early.
I've been so lucky to meet all of you in this joyful carriage, the HBS SELP carriage. Each of us boarded with the greatest love, and then, with all sorts of trains coming and going, we kept hopping from this happy little minibus onto that high-speed train of love.
Teacher Pang is getting off a bit early, but she'll carry all her love, hope and care for you, and keep watching over you. So that the first Harvard generation, the second, the third… all the way to the tenth will carry on.
I have no regrets about this journey. Right now, I'm really looking forward to my next adventure.
Because love is eternal.
So let's all carry this love forward, and let it grow and grow. Infinitely!"
Tracy, we will miss you.
On your next journey, may you still be an angel,
and meet many, many angels.
