Strolling Through San Francisco
Heading back into the city from Meta, I went to walk the road from my memories — the corner of Sunset Blvd and Noriega St. Driving west along Noriega, it's downhill, straight into the setting sun, with the sea glittering ahead.
That day, though, a light drizzle fell nonstop. Two strollers sat side by side on the beach, the waves washed over the cold, gloomy sand, and the Pacific seemed a little heartless.
There were small finds, too: by the roadside I came across someone's "shared items." Usually these are things people sort out when moving or decluttering — too good to throw away, but with no one to give them to — so they pack them in a cardboard box and leave them on the curb for anyone to take.
I actually found two poetry books, whisky words & a shovel. A wipe with an alcohol tissue, into the bag, and off they came with me~
Leafing through these poems, and the reading marks left by their previous owner, imagining what sort of person they were — it could keep you happy for a whole afternoon~~ Stranger, thank you for the gift; it made up for the gloom of a grey day.
By the sea I also ran into a group of local residents canvassing for votes, urging people to vote to keep the "seaside car-free path" in the photo above. Watching these residents standing up for a road, smiling warmly in the cold wind, I gradually felt my mood lift — and was a little moved.
